Gol Farang: The Enchanting Floral Motif of Iranian Carpets

This role seems to have involved the creator’s mind in creating such a design and function; it was a rose and natural flowers. Gol Farang is inspired by authentic Iranian motifs and wildflowers, making woven flowers look lifelike and alive.
Gol Farang motifs are Afshan Gol Farang, Gol Farang bijar, Gol Farang Dastegol, lachak and Toranj Gol Farang and Gol Farang Gol-o Bolbol.

 

 

The history of Gol Farang design

There are many differences of opinion about the origin of the design and the role of Gol Farang. Some believe that the natural imagery for this design was formed in the Safavid era and became known among Iranians 150 years ago during the time of Naser al-Din Shah when the texture of hand-woven carpets suddenly grew. Some evidence shows that Gol Farang dates back to the Timurid period. Some people have presented miniatures inspired by the rose, and some believe that there were fabrics at the time of Al-Boye that were designed with this motif, but all this is limited to theory, and the exact date of its origin is unknown. The color combination used in this type of carpet is unique. Bright colors, especially red, make the hand-woven carpet with flower designs and patterns shine like the sun. Rose bushes, which played the most critical role in this design, when placed next to different shapes, led to the creation of this artistic masterpiece.
